For more than 100 years, the College of Agriculture has been an integral part of LSU. We became an administrative unit at LSU in 1908, but our roots go back to the first graduating class, which included a planter as one of its five graduates. While the mission of the college has changed over the past century, the commitment to agricultural production in the state of Louisiana remains the common thread that binds the college's past and future. The teaching programs in the college have evolved from a focus solely on production agriculture to a comprehensive array of programs that encompass all aspects of agriculture. We are creating nutritionists and food scientists. We are developing the future apparel designers and retailers. We are educating emerging animal experts, natural resource managers and policy makers, just as we continue to produce farmers, horticulturists, plant breeders and agricultural educators, consultants and economists. The LSU College of Agriculture is the first choice for dynamic and transformative academic experiences in agricultural sciences through innovation and collaboration in a diverse, supportive and personal environment.
