Vargas is an assistant professor in the School of Transborder Studies at Arizona State University and a Nonresident Senior Fellow in Governance Studies at The Brookings Institution. His primary areas of interest are the effects of poverty and inequality on quality of life – focusing specifically on health, immigration status, and social policy – and how these factors contribute to the well-being of vulnerable families. Dr. Vargas is also interested in the methodological issues involved in the quantitative study of race and ethnicity. Dr. Vargas will be discussing his recent work on immigration enforcement and health. He will also be discussing opportunities related to his role as Co-PI on the 2016 and 2020 Collaborative Multiracial Post-Election Survey (CMPS).
