https://www.lsu.edu/research/events/science_cafe/index.phpLSU researcher Patricia Schneider’s lab uses Anableps as a powerful and fascinating research model to explore how new traits develop and evolve. This unique fish has a partially duplicated eye that allows it to see both above and below the water’s surface at the same time, all through a single optic nerve. The Schneider Lab combines developmental biology, morphology, and genomics to understand how evolution shapes the structure and function of the vertebrate eye, and how the brain brings this dual visual information together into one seamless view of the world.
