The LSU Symphonic Band opens the 2024 academic year with a concert entitled “Searching for home…”—Pieces that are inspired by journeys. After opening with Yukiko Nishiumura’s Sailing!, the ensemble will perform Michael Colgrass’ mysterious Old Churches. Meechan’s Letters for Home tells a story of war and its aftermath, followed by Omar Thomas’ meditation on stillness, Forward/Still. The concert concludes with Jonathan Elkus’ transcription of Charles Ives’ Finale (from Symphony No. II).
