Set in a fantastic, graphic-novel world of New York street gangs, the movie tells of the escape of members of a Coney Island gang, the Warriors, from a large gang gathering at which they are wrongly accused of murder and lose their leader. The surviving Warriors must travel through the territories of hostile gangs to the safety of their home on the sea. The story has its roots in Xenophon's Anabasis and includes elements of the Odyssey. The film was initially controversial because of gang violence and even killings that were linked to screenings of it, but it has since become a cult favorite. 1979, 92 minutes.
