DESCRIPTION:Louisiana shrimp constitute the American gold standard of raw s
 eafood excellence. However\, Louisiana’s shrimping industry’s historic
  and enduring connection to the Pacific Rim is not widely known. For examp
 le\, as early as 1870\, the Chinese community built shrimp-drying operatio
 ns in Louisiana’s wetlands and exported dried shrimp to Asia through the
  port of San Francisco. Louisiana continues to export dried shrimp to Asia
 n markets domestically and internationally today. Additionally\, since 200
 0\, Louisiana’s Vietnamese community has increasingly led Louisiana’s 
 fresh shrimp harvest. Join Dr. Don Davis to learn more about Louisiana’s

 Donald W. Davis has been involved for more than 50 years in coastal-rela
 ted research on the wide array of renewable and nonrenewable resources vit
 al to the use of the wetlands. His work has appeared in numerous journals 
 including “Annals of the American Association of Geographers\,” 
 “Shore & Beach\,” “Journal of Soil and Water Conservation\,” 
 “Louisiana Conservationists” and “Louisiana History.” He is coau
 thor of “Asian-Cajun Fusion: Shrimp from the Bay to the Bayou” and
  “Ain't There No More: Louisiana's Disappearing Coastal Plain\,” bot
 h published by University Press of Mississippi\, and author of “Washed
  Away? The Invisible Peoples of Louisiana’s Wetlands.” Dr. Davis is an
  LSU professor emeritus and Louisiana Sea Grant scholar.\n\nLSU Science Ca
