Join us for a hybrid live and online LSU Science Café with a faculty researcher.

About this event

Join Dr. Robb Brumfield, the curator of genetic resources at the LSU Museum of Natural Science, as he shares the story of how bird species originated and evolved. He has studied the diversification of birds in Central and South America throughout his career. He is currently the Roy Paul Daniels Professor in the LSU Department of Biological Sciences and the associate dean of research and administration for the LSU College of Science.

About the Speaker

Robb Brumfield earned his Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Maryland. As a graduate fellow at the Smithsonian Institution he studied the outcome of hybridization between two species of manakins in Panama. After completing his thesis research, Dr. Brumfield shifted his focus to Bolivia, where he studied hybridizing antbirds. In 2003, Dr. Brumfield joined the curators and faculty in the LSU Museum of Natural Science and Department of Biological Sciences, where he is focused on reconstructing the bird tree of life and understanding the evolutionary processes that resulted in the 10,000 species within the tree.

LSU Science Café is presented in partnership with WRKF.
