LSU Science Café: Protecting Your Security and Privacy in the Metaverse

We are big consumers of technology but most of us don’t stop to think about what that means for our security and privacy. Join cybersecurity expert Abe Baggili as he shares how to navigate technology and immersive virtual reality, or the Metaverse.

About the Speaker

Dr. Ibrahim (Abe) Baggili is a first generation Arab American. He is a professor of computer science and cybersecurity at LSU and the founder of the BiT Lab (Baggili Truth Lab) where he holds a joint appointment between the Division of Computer Science & Engineering and the Center for Computation and Technology. He has won numerous awards including CT Civil Medal of Merit, CT 40 under 40 and is a fellow of the European Alliance for Innovation. Previously, he was the director of the Connecticut Institute of Technology and Elder Family Endowed Chair of Computer Science & Cybersecurity at the Tagliatela College of Engineering at the University of New Haven. He received his BSc, MSc and PhD from Purdue University. Work with his students has uncovered vulnerabilities that impact over a billion people worldwide and has been featured in news and TV outlets in over 20 languages. Registration & Attendance Information

The event is open to the public and advance registration through Eventbrite is recommended.

If you are attending in-person, please print your registration ticket or have it available on your electronic device upon arrival. Doors open at 5:00 PM. Event begins at 6:00 PM.

If you are attending virtually, access to the live event will be available through Facebook Live. A Facebook account is not required to view the event livestream.

The event broadcast will be closed captioned, and a recording of the event will be made available on the LSU Research YouTube channel shortly after the event.
