The National Science Foundation employs two criteria in the merit review of proposals: Intellectual Merit and Broader Impacts. Broader Impacts are the potential of the proposed research to benefit society and contribute to the achievement of societal goals. Such activities impact the board research field, integrate education activities with research, promote diversity, or include public outreach. During this workshop, a faculty panel will discuss successful programs, resources available on campus and in the community and best practices for including these activities in grant proposals.
