Saturday Science - Macrophages: First Responders of Lungs with Dr. Yogesh Saini.

Macrophages play a wide variety of functions in our bodies.  These cells are typical first responders to almost every kind of stress in our respiratory tract, and also other tissues.  Traditionally, these cells have been perceived as mere bystanders but, with recent advancement in research capabilities, their more important roles have become more evident in health as well as disease responses.  Researchers in Saini Lab are investigating the role of macrophages in the lung diseases such as asthma, chronic bronchitis and cystic fibrosis. Dr. Saini will share his research experience with macrophages and how these cells have shaped his own research career.

Dr. Saini is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine.
