About this Event
Shakespeare's Strange Fruit: Race, Complicity, & Illegitimacy
Talk by Dr. Ruben Espinosa, Associate Professor of English from the University of Texas at El Paso
December 3rd from 3:00-4:15 p.m. in Lockett 16
Espinosa's talk will examine the problem of Latinx invisibility in the realm of Shakespeare in popular culture. Espinosa's research queries who has legitimate access to Shakespeare and the reasons for that access. Because whiteness in Shakespeare looms large, this reality often renders illegitimate students of color who engage Shakespeare's work. Thus, Espinosa's talk at LSU reimagines the value of Shakespeare's cultural capital for those at all levels of the University.
