To Stand in the Water

To Stand in the Water
A new play by Alice Wilkinson (LSU Theatre MFA, 2023)

Hugh, a fly-fisherman, has fished along one stretch of the Arkansas River, in Colorado, since he was a boy. When Tom, a new property owner, purchases this prized section of the river, he attempts to push Hugh and other locals out. To Stand in the Water is an immersive production that digs into the personal and political implications of privatizing waterways out West and who suffers as a result. It unpacks antiquated ideas surrounding ownership when a fisherman, birder, painter, and rancher, confront this new property owner and fight to maintain their access.
